The character of Stensgaard is supposedly based on writer Bjornstjerne Bjornson, a contemporary of Ibsen and political opposition leader. Praised for its witty dialogue and cynical humor, 'The League of Youth’ was one of Ibsen’s most popular 19th century plays.
