James Mill was born in 1773. He studied religion and philosophy before he devoted his attentions to writing. For ten years he wrote for The Edinburgh Review. His works include Schools for All and Commerce Defended and many politically-charged essays. After the success of The History of British India, he was asked to join the East India Company. He died in 1836.
