Apuleius (* um 123, † wohl nach 170) war ein antiker Schriftsteller, Redner und Philosoph. Seinen Ruhm verdankt er vor allem dem lateinischen Roman ›Metamorphosen‹, der auch unter dem Titel ›Der goldene Esel‹ bekannt ist und zur Weltliteratur zählt. Die längste und bekannteste der in den Roman eingefügten Erzählungen ist die Geschichte von ›Amor und Psyche‹.
