LALTA PRASAD holds a Master”s degree as well as a doctorate in sociology from the University of Lucknow. He was born in 1940 i? Ballia, U. P. and his lifelong connection with the town inspired this study. Having worked under Prof. J. W. Elder on a University of Wisconsin project in the Lucknow area he joined the Murli Manohar Town College. Ballia as Lecturer in Sociology. A keen sociologist, he attended the Xth and XIth ICAES in New Delhi (1978) and Vancouver (1983) respectively. He is currently Reader in the Department of Sociology, M. M. Town College and is deeply involved in sociological research in the Ballia area.
