Mark Boyle. Ballyshannon (Irlanda), 1979
Activista y escritor irlandés conocido por haber fundado la Comunidad Freeconomy y, sobre todo, por vivir sin dinero desde noviembre de 2008. Escribe regularmente en el blog Freeconomy y en el periódico británico The Guardian. Durante sus primeros seis años en el Reino Unido, Boyle vivió en Bristol, donde creó dos compañías de alimentos orgánicos. En 2007, tras una conversación con un amigo, decidió que el dinero crea una cierta desconexión entre nosotros y nuestras acciones. Unos meses después, inspirado por la Marcha de la Sal de Gandhi en 1930, organizó una marcha desde Bristol hasta Porbandar (India), el lugar de nacimiento del pensador.
Un año después, desarrolló un ambicioso plan: vivir totalmente sin dinero. Después de algunas compras de preparación, como un panel solar y una estufa de leña, comenzó su primer año de vida sin dinero en el Día sin compras de 2008. Boyle ha recibido considerable publicidad por sus apariciones en la televisión, la radio y otros medios de comunicación del Reino Unido, Irlanda, Australia, África del Sur, Estados Unidos y Rusia, que se han interesado en su día a día, en especial por temas como la alimentación, la higiene y aspectos tradicionalmente caros de la vida, como la celebración de la Navidad.
