Rafa Fernández de Castro es periodista, guionista y novelista. En ese orden. Es acreedor del Premio Alemán de Periodismo Walter Reuter y el Premio Internacional de Narrativa UNAM/Col Sin/Siglo XXI. Formó parte del equipo global de reporteros que investigó y publicó los Papeles de Panamá y ha entrevistado a personalidades de la talla de Edward Snowden. Durante su trayectoria se ha enfocado en temas de migración, narcotráfico y protestas sociales. Su primera novela, Los objetos en el espejo, mezcla la crónica periodística con la ficción policiaca para abordar la crisis de los feminicidios. Es egresado de la Universidad del Sur de California (USC), vivió en Los Ángeles y Miami antes de regresar a la Ciudad de México para estar más cerca de las historias que le importan.
