Wallace Shawn, geboren 1943 in New York, studierte in Harvard und Oxford Philosophie, Geschichte und Politik. Bekannt wurde er als Drehbuchautor für Louis Malle und Autor zahlreicher Theaterstücke, u. a. Das Fieber (1990) sowie als Schauspieler, 1979 debütierte er in Manhattan unter der Regie von Woody Allen. 2001 wurde Shawn in die American Academy of Arts and Sciences und 2006 in die American Academy of Arts and Letters gewählt.
