William Cooper Nell (1816–1874) was an African-American abolitionist, journalist, publisher, author, and civil servant of Boston, Massachusetts, who worked for the integration of schools and public facilities in the state. Writing for abolitionist newspapers The Liberator and The North Star, he helped publicize the anti-slavery cause. Harriet Elisabeth Beecher Stowe (1811–1896) was an American author and abolitionist. She came from the Beecher family, a religious family, and became best known for her novel Uncle Tom”s Cabin, which depicts the harsh conditions experienced by enslaved African Americans.
