In 2005, I was sitting in the parking lot of Barnes and Noble, sipping a latte, and thinking: this is what it must feel like to survive a tsunami. I had just been forced to place my mother in a nursing home. I was listening to a radio program, and heard a woman say: “Don’t die with the music still in you.” Those words poured into me like water onto thirsty ground. My music was a gift to write. God gave it to me.
I had always regretted not finishing my formal education, so I went back to school to finish my degree in business communications/professional writing. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in December of 2008. I was sixty-three. At Rochester College, I stood on the shoulders of giants who recognized and encouraged my gift.
It was a personal encounter with my God that gave me the inspiration to write about The Manchild. After many years, I realized it was not just my grandson God was talking about, but all young men. Each has a birthright and a destiny in God’s kingdom.
I live in Troy, Michigan, and intend to keep writing. Intelligence has nothing to do with revelation. Practicing the presence of God brings intimacy. From that place of intimacy, we are changed. My desire is to use the voice He gives me to challenge, and hopefully provoke, the hearts of my readers, thus bringing change.
