Seeing the failed trials of a democratic government in his native France, Tocqueville decided to study a balanced and prosperous democracy to get to know every detail of how it worked. Democracy in America is the result of all his studies. The book was and still is famous because it manages issues that include religion, the press, class structure, money, racism, the role of government, and the judicial system, all of which are just as relevant today as they were during those days. Various colleges in the U.S. have begun to use Democracy in America in political science and history courses.
