Amy grew up in Strawberry Plains, TN with her parents and older brother. As a child, she was somewhat of a “tomboy” who loved playing basketball and softball. She accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of eight. Amy enjoys the benefits of having a large extended family who share the values of faith in God, family, and enjoying life. She met her husband, David, at Calvary Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN in January 1989. They were later married there in July 1991. God blessed them with the privilege of finalizing their adoption of both of their children, Kayla and Anthony, in December 1998. Amy enjoys boating on the lakes of east Tennessee, cooking out, movie nights, singing in the choir, “Thursday night dinners” at her parents’ house, spontaneous getaways with her husband, and family beach vacations. Amy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She has worked as a social worker serving youth and their families in the East Tennessee area for twenty eight years. The last twenty years of her career were spent working at Omni Visions, a multi-state placement agency for children and adults. Amy worked in the children’s division as a Resource Coordinator providing therapeutic foster care and adoption services for children in state’s custody. She was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in April 2011 and completed her treatment in September 2012. In May 2015, she was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (aka: APL or M3) and is currently undergoing treatment. Thankfully, her prognosis is once again very good. Since retiring from Omni Visions in June 2014, Amy has focused on caring for her family, finalizing and publishing Dangling, and speaking to various women’s groups, bible study groups, and churches. Many have found Amy’s transparency, humor, and down to earth style of speaking both encouraging and refreshing. Her determination to walk by faith in God and His promises through life’s challenges is evident to all who know her. Her uplifting spirit and resolve to fight a good fight of faith from the position of victory, peace and rest inspires others to want to do the same.
