Accepting that, in operational strategic terms, the Persian army needed to have reestablished contact with the bulk of the Macedonian army, particularly by the approaches cited above, it will be considered whether it would have been possible for the Persians, being strategically offensive, to have been, mainly by unfavorable terrain, tactically defensive.
