“I’m no pro-surfer or millionaire. And I’m not a coach or guru. I’m a normal guy, but I have a life many don’t consider normal. A life you might think is reserved for lucky or successful people.
I don’t intend to tell you how to live. But if you’ve ever felt something is not quite ‘right’ about how we pursue success, you’re not alone.
When the bubble of career success burst, I found respite and freedom in the surf. I discovered the surfer’s mindset – and I learned a better way to do things.
My life isn’t perfect, but it gets pretty close to the perfection I once only dreamt of.
This is the story of how the spirit of surfing showed me the kind of success that makes life worth living. This is the tale of Froth and Hustle.”
How can surfing make you better at almost everything you do?
Just ask Chris Brown. His journey from the heights of his corporate career to the lows of unemployment, made him almost give up on his dreams. But a simple choice to take up surfing in his late twenties turned out to be the single choice that supported him through the challenges of rebuilding his life, eventually setting him on a path to create his own business with the freedom to work from anywhere in the world.
Part memoir and part personal philosophy, Froth and Hustle will show you how even non-surfers can adopt a ‘surfer’s mindset’ by learning a new way to think about life, a way that exists in the entanglement of nature, perspective and art.

Monez is a Balinese illustrator, influenced by the fables of his childhood. While he began drawing at a young age, by the end of high school, he was called to a future in his family’s garment business. After a short career in the factory office, Monez opposed family tradition and pursued a Master of Art at The Indonesian Institute of the Arts. He chose the road his grandfather, a painter, had taken. Inspired by Balinese culture and the folk-tales that drove his obsession with monsters, Monez developed a style called ‘Fablelous’, a modern interpretation of his cultural traditions.
Today Monez’s work can be seen in many forms, from large-scale murals to characters in children’s books, at exhibitions in Asia, Africa and the United States to collaborations with Apple, Disney and Starbucks, and as a featured artist on design apps Affinity Designer and Procreate to the apparel and stationery he sells under the brand MONSTERO.
