Self Immolation [EPUB ebook]
What are you doing to yourselves

Apoio

For years I’ve noticed people saying or writing things I know to be illogical. As an older man, my first inclination was to attribute it to generational change. My father disliked my music, attire, and vocabulary: that could be what it is. He seemed more comfortable with the thought of me going to Vietnam than being embarrassed by me in public. We Irish don’t react well to shaming the family. Perhaps people are joining a cult or secret society, and my invitation is lost in the mail. Uttering nonsensical things like ‘men can have babies, ‘ ‘birthing person, ‘ or chest feeders’ is the new secret handshake to show your membership in the club. As expected, I’ve concluded this isn’t a generational change. Many people need to be better informed or are willfully ignorant. It’s not ‘ignorance is bliss.’ Its ignorance is a disaster.I’ve searched several definitions of the word equity, and to quote Inigo Montoya, "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."Is there a goal here I’m missing? Do we now believe it acceptable to live in a society overrun with recidivist criminals? Is forcing others to accept what they don’t believe the new norm? If we disagree on a subject, is it hate speech? If it disagrees with our view, is it still science? Is yelling at a school board meeting terrorism? Are there published rules for this insanity?Setting your society on fire isn’t going to improve it. Changing everything without a definable goal defies logic. Changing things you disagree with, but not knowing if the change is an improvement is self-immolation: you make a fleeting point, but you don’t progress. What are you doing to yourselves?
