The Decameron is the first great realistic work in the history of European literature, which describes that when the plague prevailed in Florence in 1348, 10 young men and women took refuge in a villa and enjoyed the banquet all day. Each person told a story every day and 100 stories were told in 10 days. Therefore, it was named The Decameron. Many of the stories were drawn from historical events and legends in middle ages.Boccaccio eulogized the worldly life in The Decameron, praised love as a source of wisdom and good sentiment, condemned asceticism, and made a strong satire on the fall of the feudal aristocracy and the shameless dissipation of the Catholic Church. The work uses a box structure to connect one hundred stories together, so that the whole book can be integrated into one. The language of the work is refined and humorous, to depict the person and narrating the objects as much as subtly.
