This book presents the combined proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Computer Science and its Applications (CSA-16) and the 11st International Conference on Ubiquitous Information Technologies and Applications (CUTE 2016), both held in Bangkok, Thailand, December 19 – 21, 2016.

The aim of these two meetings was to promote discussion and interaction among academics, researchers and professionals in the field of ubiquitous computing technologies.

James J. (Jong Hyuk) Park received his Ph.D. degree in Graduate School of Information Security from Korea University, Korea. From December, 2002 to July, 2007, Dr. Park had been a research scientist of R&D Institute, Hanwha S&C Co., Ltd., Korea. From September, 2007 to August, 2009, He had been a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kyungnam University, Korea. He is now a professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Seoul National University of Science and Technology (Seoul Tech), Korea. Dr. Park has published about 100 research papers in international journals and conferences. He has been serving as chairs, program committee, or organizing committee chair for many international conferences and workshops. He is a president of the Future Technology Research Association International (FTRA) and Korea Information Technology Convergence Society (KITCS). He is editor-in-chief of Human-centric Computing and Information Sciences(HCIS) by Springer, International Journal of Information Technology, Communications and Convergence (IJITCC) by Inder Science, and Journal of Convergence (Jo C) by FTRA Publishing. He is Associate Editor / Editor of 14 international journals including 8 journals indexed by SCI(E). In addition, he has been serving as a Guest Editor for international journals by some publishers: Springer, Elsevier, John Wiley, Oxford Univ. press, Hindawi, Emerald, Inderscience. His research interests include security and digital forensics, Human-centric ubiquitous computing, context awareness, multimedia services, etc. He got the best paper awards from ISA-08 and ITCS-11 conferences and the outstanding leadership awards from IEEE HPCC-09, ICA3PP-10, IEE ISPA-11, and PDCAT-11. Dr. Park’ s research interests include Digital Forensics, Security, Ubiquitous and Pervasive Computing, Context Awareness, Multimedia Service, etc. He is a member of the IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, KIPS, KICS, KIISC, KMMS, KDFS and KIIT.
Dr. Yi Pan is a Regents’ Professor of Computer Science and an Interim Associate Dean and Chair of Biology at Georgia State University, USA. Dr. Pan joined Georgia State University in 2000 and was promoted to full professor in 2004, named a Distinguished University Professor in 2013 and designated a Regents’ Professor (the highest recognition given to a faculty member by the University System of Georgia) in 2015. He also served as the Chair of Computer Science Department from 2005-2013.
Dr. Pan received his B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in computer engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 1982 and 1984, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, in 1991. His profile has been featured as a distinguished alumnus in both Tsinghua Alumni Newsletter and University of Pittsburgh CS Alumni Newsletter. Dr. Pan’s research interests include parallel and cloud computing, wireless networks, and bioinformatics. Dr. Pan has published more than 330 papers including over 180 SCI journal papers and 60 IEEE/ACM Transactions papers. In addition, he has edited/authored 40 books. His work has been cited more than 6500 times. Dr. Pan has served as an editor-in-chief or editorial board member for 15 journals including 7 IEEE Transactions. He is the recipient of many awards including IEEE Transactions Best Paper Award, 4 other international conference or journal Best Paper Awards, 4 IBM Faculty Awards, 2 JSPS Senior Invitation Fellowships, IEEE BIBE Outstanding Achievement Award, NSF Research Opportunity Award, and AFOSR Summer Faculty Research Fellowship. He has organized many international conferences and delivered keynote speeches at over 50 international conferences around the world.
Gangman Yi received his master’s degree in Computer Sciences at Texas A&M University, USA in 2007, and doctorate in Computer Sciences at Texas A&M University, USA in 2011. In May 2011, he joined System S/W group in Samsung Electronics, Suwon, Korea. He joined the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Gangneung-Wonju National University, Korea, since March 2012. Dr. Yi has been researched in an interdisciplinary field of researches. His research focuses especially on the development of computational methods to improve understanding of biological systems and its big data. Dr. Yi actively serves as a managing editor and reviewer for international journals, and chair of international conferences and workshops.
Vincenzo Loia:’Times New Roman’; mso-fareast-language:KO’>Vincenzo Loia (BS ‘85, MS ‘87, Ph D ‘89) is Full Professor of Computer Science. His research interests include Intelligent Agents, Ambient intelligence, Computational Intelligence. Currently he is Founder & Editor-in-chief of “Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing”, and Co-Editor-in-Chief of “Softcomputing”, Springer-Verlag. He is Chair of the Task Forces “Intelligent Agents” and “Ambient Intelligence” IEEE CIS ETTC. He has been Chair the Emergent Technical Committe ‘Emergent Technology’, IEEE CIS Society and Vice-Chair of Intelligent Systems Applications Technical Committee. He has been author of more than 200 scientific works, Editor/co-editor of 4 Books,   64  journal papers, 25 book chapters, and 100  conference papers. He is Senior member of the IEEE, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions  on Industrial Informatics, and Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems. Many times reviewers for national and international projects, Dr. Loia is active in the research domain of agents, ambient intelligence, computational intelligence, smartgrids, distributed platform for enrich added value.
