James Joyce
Ulysses [EPUB ebook]

Apoio

‘Ulysses’ is a novel by Irish writer James Joyce, first published in 1922. This outstanding example of modernist literature is one of the most influential and complex works of the 20th century.
The novel is a reworking of Homer’s epic work ‘The Odyssey’, transferred into the context of one day — June 16, 1904 — in the life of an ordinary man named Leopold Bloom in Dublin. This day, known as ‘Bloomsday’, includes the events and experiences of various characters, mainly Leopold Bloom, his wife Molly and the young writer Stephen Dedalus.
‘Ulysses’ has a unique structure and style: each of its 18 episodes is made in a different literary technique, from stream of consciousness and internal monologue to parodies and mythological allusions. The work focuses on the daily life and inner experiences of the characters, which allows Joyce to explore the themes of consciousness, identity, morality and art.
Despite the apparent simplicity of the plot, the novel is riddled with deep philosophical reflections and experiments with language. ‘Ulysses’ questions traditional forms of storytelling, exploring the complexity of human experience and transforming it into an epic chronicle of a single day.
The text of the novel is presented in the original language without translation or adaptation.
