John was born in England near Bristol in 1927. His family were originally from Ireland. They left Ireland during the potato famine going to Lincolnshire to continue potato farming. They gradually moved West to Bristol. John was one of eleven children. He is the last one to survive. He was married to Irene and had three children and four grandchildren and one great grand child. Irene died of a pulmonary embolism. A few years later John married his second wife, Lorraine a South African widow. They retired to live in South Africa in Somerset West near Cape Town.
