Sidney (1859-1947) and Martha Beatrice Webb, née Potter (1858-1943), co-founded the London School of Economics and turned the Fabian Society into an influential voice in Edwardian politics. Beatrice was a sociologist, economist, and socialist; she coined the term “collective bargaining.” Sidney, who studied the same subjects as his wife, was named The Lord Passfield in 1929.
