The first edition of Inland Water Transport in India by Prof. R P Misra was published by Prasaranga, University of Mysore in 1972. Inland transport is the cheapest means of carrying people and goods from place to place at the lowest possible cost and in promoting tourism is unmatched. The book is based on the secondary information derived from various sources including official reports of the central and state governments. Wherever possible, these data have been supplemented by field observations. The book is written to arouse public interest in inland waterways and their potential role in accelerating socio-economic development in India.
