About the author

Richard Christopher Church (1815–1890) was an English writer and Dean of St. Paul’s in London. His legacy is his biographies of Spencer and Bacon, and study of Dante, among many other volumes of essays and sermons. His sympathetic yet unemotional judgment of his subjects, along with his clear writing style made Church an excellent author.
