Carl Van Vechten
Peter Whiffle (Barnes & Noble Digital Library) [EPUB ebook]

Ajutor

This 1922 novel is an early example of a modern metafiction.  Based on Van Vechten’s own experiences in Paris, and featuring himself as first-person narrator, as well as many of his friends and acquaintances as characters, the novel revolves around an entirely fictional personage, the eponymous Peter Whiffle, a would-be writer.

Despre autor

Carl Van Vechten (1880-1964) was an American critic, author, and photographer known for his involvement with the Harlem Renaissance.  He served as the literary executor for Gertrude Stein.  Aside from his patronage of African-American writers and artists, his sensitive portraits of such figures as James Baldwin, Billie Holiday, and F. Scott Fitzgerald are his most enduring legacy.
