Firefighting in high-rise buildings is very different from firefighting in normal residential or commercial buildings. In addition to the basics of high-rise building construction, the book specifically addresses the hazards of high-rise firefighting. A phase model is used as an example to show how a high-rise fire operation can proceed and what needs to be planned and carried out in each phase of the operation. The book concludes with example operations, advice on self-rescue from fire brigade lifts and tips on correct ventilation.

Florentin von Kaufmann, a qualified engineer, is head of department and head of the Integrated Control Center in the Munich Fire Department. Falko Schmid, a graduate of the Bavarian School of Public Policy, is a project manager and controller in the Munich Fire Department.
