“Confessions of a Young Man” is an unusually frank account, by the standards of the time, of an Irish expatriate’s unconventional life as a bohemian artist in Paris and London during the ‘
fin-de-siècle.’ This work is notable as being one of the first English writings which named important emerging French Impressionists; for its literary criticism; and depictions of bohemian life in Paris during the 1870s and 1880s.
