A popular, non-operatic composer, Martucci wrote about 85 works during his life which bear opus numbers: this, the ‘Konzert – Fantasie über ‘La forza del destino’, is opus number 1. Written when he was a student at the Reale Collegio di S Pietro a Majella, Naples, the fantasie demonstrates the raw compositional talent of the young composer, in this reinterpretation of themes from Verdi’s opera, La forza del destino’.
