In this collection of three beautifully written essays, the distinguished philosopher Jacques Maritain presents his reflections on the role of philosophy in the life of man as a social being. In his concern for the social relevance of philosophy, Professor Maritain writes of the ways in which philosophy helps one to live. His essays are a dear and persuasive statement of why the world needs philosophers, and of how the pursuit of truth and intellectual justice requires fellowship among men of different faiths. Two of the essays, ‘Truth and Human Fellowship’ and “The Philosopher in Society, ” were given as lectures at the Graduate School of Princeton University. The third, “God and Science, ” is a new statement from Professor Maritain on the relation of modern science to man’s knowledge of God.
