Jan Smith has always loved animals. As a child, she was always dragging critters homebugs, lizards, birds, dogs, and cats. Her love for horses began as a child when her uncle bought twenty pony rides in one day. She began drawing animals and continued with art and riding, with a love for the outdoors. She joined the marine corps, worked as an ambulance crew and as police and fire dispatcher, and spent fifteen years in fire department emergency management. During that time were forty-plus years of horse training and competitions in horse shows. Now retired, she owns one horse and three cats, of whom this book is about.
