When he wasn’t trekking the globe as a war correspondent, Davis produced works of fiction that earned him enormous popularity in his day. Published in 1894, Exiles and Other Stories collected such stories as, “The Other Woman, ” “The Last Ride Together, ” the title story, and more. In all six he draws upon his world travels in exciting tales of adventure and daring.

Richard Harding Davis (1864–1916) American journalist, war correspondent, short-story writer, playwright, and novelist. He worked in politics as well as fashion. He is best known for his colorful firsthand accounts as a war correspondent in six wars including the Spanish-American War, the Greco-Turkish War, the Boer War, and World War I. His well-known works include
Soldiers of Fortune and
Gallegher and Other Stories.
