Richard Whately (1787–1863) was an English rhetorician, academic, logician, philosopher, theologian, and economist. Written when he lived in Oxford, his tract “Historic Doubts Relative to Napoleon Buonaparte” is a witty jeu d’ésprit aimed at excessive scepticism of Gospel history. First published in 1819, this book is highly recommended for those with an interest in Napoleon Buonaparte and European history in general.
