Wie haben evangelische Christen in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus ihre ablehnende Haltung gegen das Regime zum Ausdruck gebracht? Anhand konkreter Beispiele werden widerständige Handlungen von der partiellen Unzufriedenheit bis hin zur Verweigerung oder zur Beteiligung am Umsturzversuch dargestellt.
Neben bekannten Personen wie Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martin Niemöller oder Elisabeth Schmitz werden auch bisher für den christlichen Widerstand kaum beachtete Gruppen wie die religiösen Sozialisten, die christlichen Mitglieder des Nationalkomitees Freies Deutschland oder Kriegsdienstverweigerer ins Blickfeld gerückt. Das Handeln der wenigen Widerständigen wird in die politische Entwicklung und das Verhalten des Mehrheitsprotestantismus eingeordnet.

Alongside known persons like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martin Niemöller, or Elisabeth Schmitz, the focus is also put on groups of Christian resistance that have been barely noticed so far as for example the religious socialists, the Christian members of the National Committee for a Free Germany, or the conscientious objectors. The actions of the few dissidents are seen before the background of the political development and the behavior of the Protestant majority.
