STEPHEN E. TOULMIN (Londres, 1922 – Los Ángeles, 2009) fue un filósofo y educador británico, profesor de humanidades de la Fundación Avalon en la Northwestern University. Se doctoró en Filosofía en la Universidad de Cambridge en 1948, donde trabajó junto a Ludwig Wittgenstein, cuyas ideas influyeron en forma decisiva en sus primeros trabajos. Enseñó en las universidades de Oxford, Melbourne, Leeds, Columbia, Darmouth, Michigan, Stanford y Chicago. Entre sus publicaciones destacan La Viena de Wittgenstein (en colaboración con Allan Janik; El puesto de la razón en la ética; El legado del positivismo lógico (en colaboración con Herbert Feigl); Cosmópolis y Los usos de la argumentación.
