Studies the Federal Home Loan Bank System, how it has changed over time and why
During one of the worst recessions in United States history, the federal government undertook a series of sweeping changes related to the foreclosure crisis. These changes, in particular to the Federal Home Loan Bank System, have many implications. Mission Expansion in the Federal Home Loan Bank System draws attention to this growing program and argues that the program did not contribute to the foreclosure crisis, also offering a close anaysis of its functions and relationship with congress. Susan M. Hoffmann is Professor of Political Science at Western Michigan University. She is the author of Politics and Banking: Ideas, Public Policy, and the Creation of Financial Institutions. Mark K. Cassell is Associate Professor of Political Science at Kent State University. He is the author of How Governments Privatize: The Politics of Divestment in the United States and Germany, which won the International Political Science Association’s Charles H. Levine Award for the best book in public policy and administration published in 2002.
