Bolin is originally from Sichuan, China. He got his Bachelor of Engineering in Microelectronics from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in 2010. Then he moved to the US to study at Massachusetts Institute of Technology under Prof. Gang Chen, and earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2016. After a one-year stay at California Institute of Technology as a Kavli Postdoc Fellow in Nanoscience hosted by late Prof. Ahmed Zewail, Bolin started as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at UCSB in July 2017. Bolin”s research interest is in sustainable energy technologies, broadly defined, and aims to use knowledge gained from fundamental studies of nanoscale energy transport to design more efficient and cost-effective clean energy harvesting devices. Outside of the lab, Bolin is an avid reader, a bass guitarist, and likes to swim, ski and play squash.
