Amitava Kumar, 1963 im indischen Ara geboren, lebt heute in Poughkeepsie, New York, und lehrt Englisch am Vassar College. 2016 wurde er mit einem Guggenheim-Stipendium ausgezeichnet. Kumar hat mehrere Sachbücher sowie zahlreiche preisgekrönte Essays und Kritiken unter anderem für Harper’s, Guardian, New Yorker, Vanity Fair und New York Times verfasst. Am Beispiel des Affen ist sein erster ins Deutsche übersetzter Roman.
