Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2015 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies — Linguistics, grade: 2, 3, University of Cologne, language: English, abstract: This paper deals with the theory of Frame Semantics, a concept developed by the American linguist Charles J. Fillmore. The basic assumption of frame semantics is that in order to understand a word properly, its ‘frame, ‘ i.e. all the knowledge relating to this word is necessary. I will use this theoretical framework to explore the question to what extent the problems of the so-called dictionary view can be solved by Frame Semantics.
