Bhavani Thuraisingham is the Founder Chair Professor of Computer Science (since 2004), Senior Strategist in Cyber Security and Data Science (since 2021), and the Founding Executive Director of the Cyber Security Research and Education Institute (2004–2021) at the University of Texas at Dallas, USA. She is also Visiting Senior Research Fellow at Kings College, the University of London, UK, conducting research on Io T security, a member of the Scientific Councilof the URIFIA Laboratory, at the University of Dschang, Cameroon, Africa, giving lectures (pro-bono) on integrating machine learning and cyber security, and was a Cyber Security Policy Fellow at the New America Foundation 2017–2018 focusing on cyber security workforce development. Her research interests are on integrating cyber security and artificial intelligence, data science for the past 36 years. Her 41-year career includes industry (Honeywell), federal research lab (MITRE), the US government (NSF) and the US Academia. Her work has resulted in more than 130+journal articles, more than 300 conference papers, more than 180 keynote and featured addresses, 7 US patents, 16 books, as well as technology transfer of the research to commercial products and operational systems. She has also served as consultant in cyber security and data science for the US Government—Departments of Defence and Treasury as well as the Intelligence Community—since 1991, and has given tutorials, courses and seminars at several US Air Force Bases as well as other organizations around the world.
Chris Clifton is Professor of Computer Science at Purdue University, West Lafayette, USA. He has earned his Ph D from Princeton University, and Bachelor and Master degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. Prior to joining Purdue in 2001, Chris had served as Principal Scientist at The MITRE Corporation and as Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University, USA. His research interests include data mining, data security, database support for text, and heterogeneous databases. Professor Clifton works on challenges posed by novel uses of data mining technology, including data mining of text, data mining techniques applied to interoperation of heterogeneous information sources, and security and privacy issues raised by data mining. Fundamental data mining challenges posed by these applications, include extracting knowledge from noisy data, identifying knowledge in highly skewed data (few examples of “interesting” behavior), and limits on learning. He also works on database support for widely distributed and autonomously controlled information, particularly information administration issues such as supporting fine-grained access control.
