Srikumar Chattopadhyay (b. 1953) obtained M.Sc. (1974) and Ph.D. (1986) degrees in Geography from the University of Calcutta. Presently, he is working as a scientist in the Centre for Earth Science Studies, Thiruvananthapuram. His research interest covers sustainable development, environment-development interface, microlevel planning, applied geomorphology and participatory resource evaluation. He has contributed significantly in developing Participatory Resource Mapping model (PRM) now widely used in the country for watershed management and participatory planning. Dr. Chattopadhyay is the Chairman of NAGI Commission on Sustainable Development. Professor H.S. Sharma (b. 1945) holds postgraduate and doctoral degrees in geography from the University of Saugar, Madhya Pradesh. He has been participating in several national and international conferences such as First, Second and Third International Conferences on Geomorphology held at Manchester, UK (1985) Frankfurt, FRG (1989) and Hamilton (1993), the Desert Sediment meeting, London (1986) and International Symposium on Aerospace Survey and Natural Disaster Reduction, Enschede, Netherlands (1989). Professor Sharma has also attended first international Science Conference under the auspices of International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (1995) at Garmisch, Germany, and visited Salford and East Anglia (Norwich) Universities under Academic Link Exchange Programme (1993) and Norway (1995). Currently Dr. Sharma is a Professor and Head of the Department of Geography, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, and also working on a Project on Ecoperception of Ranthambhore Sanctuary sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forests.
