This 1888 biography launched Green’s career as a respected historian in her own right, after years of assisting her husband, historian John R. Green, in his work. Green was the only woman to contribute to the Twelve English Statesmen series—a reflection of her high ability as well as the sexism of the time.
Об авторе
Alice Stopford Green (1847-1929) was an Irish historian, writer, and nationalist politician. Wife of historian John R. Green, she assisted his work as well as pursuing an independent career. She is best remembered for The Making of Ireland and its Undoing (1908), in which she brought a frankly nationalist sensibility to her meticulous historical research.
