Michael G Cottam completed his degree in mathematics and physics at the University of Cambridge, and his Ph D at the University of Oxford. Following a year working at the Plessey Research Laboratories he joined the faculty of physics at the University of Essex. In 1987 he moved to the University of Western Ontario where he is now a Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
