Olaudah Equiano, also known as Gustavus Vassa, was a prominent African figure in the late 18th century, whose works have significantly contributed to the abolitionist movement in Britain. Born in approximately 1745 in what is now Nigeria, Equiano was kidnapped and sold into slavery as a child.
