Many opinions contend in the church today for what constitutes true worship of God and how best it can be practiced. This collection of essays carries on a conversation between biblical scholars and church music practitioners. The final essay by Wendy Porter takes a historical journey of theological reflection on Christian worship from the days of the early church, tracing worship developments in the Western church through the centuries to today. Wendy J. Porter is professor of music and worship at Mc Master Divinity College, Hamilton, ON, Canada. She is an accomplished musician in both classical and contemporary idioms. She has recorded three CDs of contemporary Christian music and done major research on most areas of church music, from the earliest Christian hymn to contemporary worship music. She recently published Early English Composers and the Credo.
