Solon Robinson (1803–1880) was an American agriculturist and author. Born in Connecticut, Robinson left a considerable imprint on agricultural journalism, and his innovative approach to farming garnered respect in the mid-19th century. Robinson”s career spanned various roles including inventor, pioneer farmer, and founding member of the American agricultural movement. He is perhaps best known for his role in establishing the Indiana State Board of Agriculture and advocating for the Indiana State Fair. Robinson”s literary contributions are chiefly aimed at enriching the farming community with practical knowledge and wisdom, as exemplified in his treatise “Guano: A Treatise of Practical Information for Farmers.” His dedication to improving agricultural practices is encapsulated in this work, which provided farmers with an exploration of the advantages of using guano as a fertilizer to enhance crop productivity (Robinson, 1853).
