His research interests focus on the practical achievement of sustainability in development and natural resource management and he has been involved with such projects across the world, including a recent six-year study on agriculture in Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Higher Education Academy and the Institute of Biology and a member of the Development Studies Association.
