Anjoo Sharan Upadhyaya is Professor in Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She holds a Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University, in International Studies and Masters” from Allahabad University. She has done post-doctoral research at London, UK and Uppasala University, Sweden. She has been serving on the faculty of Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Banaras Hindu University for the past 28 years. Apart from teaching, she has served as Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences (1st January 1998 to 1st January 2001); Director, Integrated Rural Development Programme, Banaras I lindu University (1 st January 1998 to 1st January 2000); Head, Department of Political Science (August 1998 to June 2001) and recently as Research Director, Institute of Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity (INCORE).The United Nations University, Northern Ireland. In recognition of her work, Prof. Upadhyaya has been selected for various national and international awards. Starting from Swedish International Co-operation Fellowship to undertake an international training programme at Uppsala University; Academic Visitor at the Department of International Relations, London School of Economics and Politics (LSE); Member, International Planning Study Team, United Nations University, Ulster University (UK) to conduct a feasibility study to create a UNU Centre for Ethnicity and Conflict Resolution; prestigious Woodrow Wilson Guest Scholar Award at the Woodrow Wilson Centre for International Scholars, Washington DC; Member, Academic Council of the United Nations System (ACUNS); Awarded ACUNS Fellowship to participate in the ACUNS/AS1L Workshop at Brown University; Member, Commission on International Conflict Resolution at the Council ofthe International Peace Research Association (IPRA), Kyoto (Japan); invited by the Ministry for Nationalities and External Relations, Republic of Daghestan (Russian Federation) as a subject expert in Problem Solving Seminar on Ethnic Disaffection and Local Self-Governance; and Visiting Fellow, Henry L. Stimson Centre, Washington DC. Professor Upadhyaya has published extensively both Nationally and Internationally on themes related to issues of Self-determination, ethnicity, conflict, federalism, gender and Development.
