Knowing one’s origin coupled with an appropriate name gives one a sense of great pride and belonging. In the United States in particular most people with African ancestry have started moving away from the traditional English names which is a clear sign that there is a yearning to associate with mother Africa. The beginning of this major shift came with the acceptance of Islam and the push for equality among the races.
