The demographic change will lead to a significant increase in the participation of the elderly in transport as the elderly are increasingly mobile. As such, they will represent a growing share in traffic. This poses the controversial question on whether elderly traffic participants are a danger or an endangered group. The present edition takes up this question head-on as the different authors provide a nuanced perspective on the participation of the elderly in traffic. They take into account the latest research and give a problem-oriented overview concerning the most up-to-date findings in this area. Age-induced deficits, compensation mechanisms and options for prevention are analysed with regards to the different kinds of traffic participation and suggestions for the future work in traffic security are illustrated with concrete examples.This way, a reference book on ensuring mobility for the elderly, benefitting all, has been developed.
