The author of this work, Gustav Aschaffenburg, stands in the front rank of leaders of thought in modern criminal science in Germany. His work bears witness to the valuable aid which medical and psychiatric studies must always render to criminal law. In its thoroughly realistic application of social statistics to the theories of criminal law, it occupies a place of almost unique importance in the literature of criminal science.
