This book examines key theoretical counselling perspectives and applies these specifically to work with young people. It establishes how to build counselling relationships in order to support young people and enable them to achieve positive outcomes and to manage their lives effectively. It also identifies the key counselling skills needed to engage in purposeful, helping conversations. Jane Westergaard is a senior lecturer at Canterbury Christ Church University. She teaches on a range of programmes specifically designed for students who plan to engage in employment with young people, but not in teaching roles. These youth support professionals include school counsellors, pastoral tutors, voluntary sector youth support workers, classroom assistants, learning mentors, careers advisers and personal advisers.
