Drawing on the author’s experiences as a magistrate and legal reformer, Amelia follows the travails of Amelia Booth and her husband, Captain Booth, as they suffer a series of unjust persecutions brought about by corrupt social institutions. Published in 1751, it was Fielding’s final novel.
Om författaren
Henry Fielding (1707-1754) was a groundbreaking English novelist and satirist famous for such bawdy adventures as Tom Jones. While he began as a playwright, his satirical tone contributed to the ban on satire in English theater. His work as a great humanitarian not only influenced his writing but also led to the founding of London’s first police force.
