Nature and the Supernatural (1858), subtitled “As Together Constituting The One System of God, ” is Bushnell’s sweeping discussion of creation, miracles, and the supernatural aspects of humanity. Opposed to the contemporary conceptions of religion as science, Bushnell attempts to restore religion to the realm of the supernatural, as he defines it in this volume.
Om författaren
Horace Bushnell (1802-1876) was an American Congregational clergyman, controversial theologian, and preacher. His theological position opposed Calvinistic orthodoxy, criticizing the prevailing conceptions of the Trinity, human connection to the sublime, theology as fact, and conversion. His view of religion was more spiritual and feelings-based. He wrote Nature and the Supernatural (1858); The Vicarious Sacrifice (1866), on personal atonement; God in Christ (1849), on the Trinity and our finite apprehension of God; and Christ in Theology (1851), a discussion on spiritual truths and the fallacy of dogmatic theology.
